Handgun Checkering - 1911's and Browning High Powers |
Checkering handguns is a very time consuming job. If the gunsmith doesn’t like doing the work, or putting in the effort, then you the customer are not going to get a very complete job. Eighty percent of the checkering smithies out there do incomplete work. This shows up in not sharp diamonds and very crudely finished patterns at the top end of the checkering job. There is no excuse for incomplete checkering, except that the person doing the checkering does not have the patience it takes to point up the diamonds or contour and blend the top area. These two aspects involve hours of time and to bigger gun shops, time is money. They could be clocking more dollars by just taking the job so far and then going on to the next job. After checkering around 70 - 80 1911 handguns and 20 or so Browning High Power pistols, I developed a knack for doing them. So much so, that after checkering 100’s, I actually relish the job. So if you want the front strap and backstrap, or slide-heel and trigger guard areas of either of these two pistols checkered with tender loving care, please Contact me for specifics on you particular handgun. |
